Local Historic Preservation Resources:
Historic Preservation Commission Bylaws: the following rules shall be the established procedures for organizing and to govern the transaction of the business of the Historic Preservation Commission of the City of Lee’s Summit. (Revised July 20, 2009)
Lee's Summit Historical Society: The Lee' Summit Historical Society maintains a museum in the south End of the historic 1905 train depot located in downtown Lee's Summit. The museum opened October 4, 1991 and houses a number of historic artifacts, maps, and photos of early Lee's Summit.
Lee's Summit Historical Cemeteries: On behalf of the City of Lee’s Summit, the Parks and Recreation Department oversees and maintains the Lee’s Summit Historical Cemeteries. The cemetery, in existence since 1867, sits on 20 acres and currently contains approximately 20,000 grave spaces.

Cass County Historical Society: The Cass County Historical Society, Inc. was organized in 1965 for the purpose of discovering, collecting and preserving material which identifies and illustrates the history of this area. The society collects material illustrative of life conditions, events and activities of the past and present. The society has published books dealing with family histories, a history of Harrisonville, cemetery guides, calendars, and reprinted plat books.
R. A. Long Historical Society: Dedicated to preserving the legacy of R. A. Long and his family through projects which educate with integrity and truth. The R. A. Long property is now the New Longview area of Lee's Summit.

Certified Local Governments (CLG):The CLG program came into existence from amendments to the Preservation Act of 1966. It was designed to create and expand the historic preservation network of the federal and state governments by developing tools for participation of local governments. The Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation: The Secretary of the Interior is responsible for establishing standards for all programs under Departmental authority and for advising Federal agencies on the preservation of historic properties listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.

Missouri Department of Economic Development: The Department of Economic Development administers a wide array of programs designed to enhance Missouri's economy in the 21st Century. It is composed of agencies that execute statutory requirements and department policy in the areas of community, economic and workforce development.
- Missouri Historic Preservation Tax Credit Program - Preliminary Application and Guidelines: The Missouri Historic Tax Credit Program was passed in September 1997 by the Missouri General Assembly, and became effective January 1, 1998. The law’s intent is to aid in the redevelopment of historic structures in the state of Missouri. The Missouri Department of Economic Development is responsible for the issuance of the credits based upon certification of the rehabilitation by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO). If there is any conflict between these Guidelines and the applicable statutory provisions, the statutes shall control.
